Meet our CEO

Benedict Geber

Mr. Benedict Geber has been with Horizon Shipping since 2009 as Chartering Manager and was appointed CEO in 2013. He started his shipping career at Ultranav International where he was part of the Ultrabulk team from 2006 until 2009.

Benedict Geber completed his business studies at the University of Passau in Bavaria and holds a degree in Business Administration from TU-Berlin. Benedict Geber has dual citizenship (Germany and US).

Per von Appen

Executive Chairman

Mr. Per von Appen is Executive Chairman of Naviera Ultranav Ltda, Chairman of Horizon. Mr. von Appen has held several senior executive positions within the company and prior to that also worked in a number of well-known shipping companies abroad. He holds a degree in Economics from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile in Santiago and also completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School of Boston (USA). Mr. Per von Appen is a Chilean and German citizen and resides in Santiago, Chile.

Jan Vermeij

Director

Mr. Jan Vermeij has over 30 years of experience in the shipping industry, holding leadership roles across Chile, Argentina, and Peru. He joined the Ultramar/Ultranav Group in 2006 and has served as Executive VP of Petrolera Transoceanica, CEO of Ultratug, and later CEO of Ultramar. Since 2018, he has served as COO of Ultranav. Mr. Vermeij holds a BA in Economics from Occidental College in Los Angeles and a postgraduate degree in Business Administration from Universidad Adolfo Ibañez. He is a Chilean citizen and resides in Chile.

Francisco Larrain

Director

Mr. Francisco Larraín joined Ultramar in 2008 and has held roles in Chile and Denmark across finance, strategy, and operations. He served as Senior Business Analyst at Ultrabulk, Managing Director at Ultranav Business Support, and later CFO of Ultranav. In 2024, he was appointed COO. Mr. Larraín studied Industrial Engineering at Universidad Católica in Santiago, Chile. From 2014 to 2015 he studied an MBA with a focus on Finance at the Kellogg School of Management in Chicago, USA. He resides in Chile.
